Madison National Life Insurance Company, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Independence Holding Company, a NYSE listed corporation (Symbol IHC) with principal interests in the life and health insurance business. Also in this group are Standard Security Life Insurance Company of New York and Independence American Insurance Company. At December 31, 2005, consolidated assets of Independence Holding Company were $1,150,923,000 and common stockholders equity totaled $198,751,000.

The Company was founded in 1961, and is headquartered in Madison Wisconsin, with operations in Austin, Texas, and Birmingham, Alabama. It is licensed in 49 states, American Samoa, the District of Columbia, Guam, and the Virgin Islands, and is an authorized reinsurer in the State of New York. Madison National Life is rated A-(Excellent) by A.M. Best.

Madison National Life is involved in several lines of life, health and disability business including:
  • Group Life, Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability for both public and private sector employers across the country.
  • Small Group Major Medical (2-50 lives) in most states and the District of Columbia. These plans are administered by Insurers Administrative Corporation of Phoenix, AZ, one of the nation's largest third party administrators.
  • Short-Term Medical administered through Health Plan Administrators, the second largest marketer and administrator of this line.
  • Employer Medical Stop-Loss distributed nationally through independent managing general underwriters, and
  • Military and Civilian Government Employee Life, Health and Annuity products distributed on a national basis.
Additionally, Madison National Life is a leading acquirer of blocks of policies from other insurance companies and state insurance guaranty associations.
